UTF-8 Convert

See the UTF-8 bytes behind any text.

  • Free
  • No sign-up
  • Runs in your browser

Shows the UTF-8 bytes of your text. Paste them into UTF-8 Decode to get the text back.

What does UTF-8 Convert do?

UTF-8 Convert encodes your text instantly, as you type or when you press the button.

UTF-8 is how computers store text as bytes. Seeing the bytes helps when you’re debugging “mojibake” such as é appearing instead of é.

What you can use

Any text, including emoji and non-English characters (they are treated as UTF-8).

How to use UTF-8 Convert

  1. Step 1

Paste the text you want to encode.

  2. Step 2

Run UTF-8 Convert. Errors such as invalid characters are shown under the box.

  3. Step 3

Copy the result with one click.

Good to know

  • Encoding is reversible and is not a way to hide secrets — use real encryption for anything sensitive.
  • Run the matching decoder on the output to check it round-trips back to your original text.

Your privacy

Everything happens in this browser tab: what you paste is converted by JavaScript on your device and never sent to our server. Closing the tab clears it. Even so, don’t paste live passwords, API keys or customer records into any website.

Frequently asked questions

Is UTF-8 Convert free?

Yes. UTF-8 Convert is completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit.

Is the data I paste sent to a server?

No. Conversion runs in JavaScript inside this browser tab and nothing you paste is sent or stored. Even so, avoid pasting live passwords, API keys or private customer data into any website.

Why do I get an error?

Almost always the input isn’t quite valid: a missing comma or quote in JSON, an unclosed tag in XML, or a tab in YAML. The error message shows where parsing stopped — fix that spot, or press “Load example” to compare with input that works.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. It works in any modern browser on Android, iPhone, tablets and computers — nothing to install.
