XML to JSON
Turn XML into structured JSON.
- Free
- No sign-up
- Runs in your browser
Attributes become "@name" keys, repeated elements become arrays, and numbers/booleans are typed.
Converted output will appear here.
What does XML to JSON do?
XML to JSON turns XML into neatly indented JSON you can use in code or an API request. Paste your data, press Convert, then copy the result or download it as a file.
What you can use
Well-formed XML: one root element, every tag closed, attribute values in quotes. The <?xml …?> line is optional.
Example
Input
<user id="7"> <name>Asha</name> </user>
Output
{
"user": {
"@id": "7",
"name": "Asha"
}
}Attributes get an “@” in front so you can tell them apart from child elements.
How to use XML to JSON
- Step 1
Paste your XML into the input box, or use “Load example” to see the expected shape.
- Step 2
Press Convert. If the input isn’t valid, an error message tells you what is wrong and where.
- Step 3
Copy the JSON output or download it as a file.
Good to know
- Every opening tag needs a matching closing tag, and only one root element is allowed. Characters like & and < inside text must be written as & and <.
- Big inputs (several MB) work, but the browser may pause for a moment while it converts.
Your privacy
Everything happens in this browser tab: what you paste is converted by JavaScript on your device and never sent to our server. Closing the tab clears it. Even so, don’t paste live passwords, API keys or customer records into any website.

All guidesFrequently asked questions
Is XML to JSON free?
Yes. XML to JSON is completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit.
Is the data I paste sent to a server?
No. Conversion runs in JavaScript inside this browser tab and nothing you paste is sent or stored. Even so, avoid pasting live passwords, API keys or private customer data into any website.
Why do I get an error?
Almost always the input isn’t quite valid: a missing comma or quote in JSON, an unclosed tag in XML, or a tab in YAML. The error message shows where parsing stopped — fix that spot, or press “Load example” to compare with input that works.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. It works in any modern browser on Android, iPhone, tablets and computers — nothing to install.
